anica-buddy is an ICD-10-CM and CMS-HCC reference for medical coders. Type a code or a few words, give a date, and read the Tabular List entry and its V28 HCC mapping for the edition in force on that date.

Every code opens as its parts. Change the date and the answer follows the edition in force that day, or says plainly that no edition covers it.

Capabilities

Four tools available now, each answering for one edition on one date.

Encoder
Open any ICD-10-CM code on a date. Read its full title, whether it is billable, the notes it inherits from every level above it, and its CMS-HCC V28 mapping with the factor for each segment.
Search and spelling
Type words instead of a code. Buddy searches that edition's Alphabetic Index and Tabular titles, and offers the right spelling when a word is off.
Evidence / MEAT
Paste a short sentence without identifiers and pick a code. Buddy marks where the condition is written, whether it is affirmed, denied or family history, and the Monitor, Evaluate, Assess and Treat words around it. The text is checked and discarded.
RAF calculator
Enter age, sex, entitlement and diagnoses to see the raw V28 score, each factor in it, and the line of CMS's own software behind every step. No name or member ID is asked for.

Principles

A reference is only useful if you can check it. These rules hold on every screen.

  • Every figure has a source

    Titles, notes, HCCs and factors are read from official CDC and CMS files, each recorded with its checksum. Click a figure to see the file. If a file is missing, Buddy says which one instead of guessing.

  • One edition at a time

    Answers are for the edition in force on the date you give. When no edition covers that date, Buddy refuses and names what is missing. It never borrows a neighbouring year.

  • No HCC is not the same as invalid

    A valid code with no HCC, a code newer than the mapping file, and a code that does not exist are three different answers. Buddy keeps them apart.

  • It informs, you decide

    Buddy never approves a code, never turns a suspected condition into a diagnosis, and never proposes a code from a medication.

  • No patient data

    Buddy holds no charts. Text you paste into the evidence check is not stored and is sent to no AI model.

  • No CPT content

    CPT is licensed by the AMA. Until a licence is in place the CPT screen is locked, and it has a button to tell us you need it.
